China is creating the world's first AI baby
Chinese scientists have given birth to the world's first baby with artificial intelligence. This artificial intelligence, called Tong Tong, was developed by the Beijing Institute of Artificial General Intelligence (BIGAI). Tong Tong is an AI-powered virtual avatar that was first introduced to the public in Beijing.
BIGAI sees Tong Tong as an important step towards creating an artificial general intelligence (AGI) agent, a machine capable of thinking and reasoning like a human. The team is led by Zhu Songchun, a renowned artificial intelligence expert. An AGI agent differs from traditional AI in that it can perform many different tasks, not just one.
Tong Tong showed similar abilities to a three or four year old in his debut. He demonstrated skills such as cleaning, repairing objects and responding to human commands, such as getting a towel to wipe up a spill.
What sets Tong Tong apart is his ability to assign tasks to himself without being explicitly told what to do. This level of independence is unusual for virtual entities. Furthermore, according to its creators, Tong Tong was designed to convey emotion and intellect.
BIGAI scientists have also developed a new AGI testing method called the Tonga test. This test evaluates artificial intelligence based on various factors such as vision, speech, thinking, movement and learning. Different values such as survival and emotions are also taken into account. The Tonga test is critical to ensure that AGI can function effectively in a human environment and has practical skills and values.
